Extension Expectations: Kenya
Entry Requirements
Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)
Most foreign visitors to Kenya must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before traveling.
The processing time is three business days, but we recommend applying a few weeks prior to your departure.
Your trip manager will send you the safari brief required to complete the application.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your planned date of entry, subject to current official requirements. · Apply through the official Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation website: https://etakenya.go.ke/
You must receive eTA approval before traveling. We recommend carrying a printed copy of your approved eTA.
Mandatory Travel Insurance
Foreign visitors entering Kenya on or after October 6, 2026, are required to have inbound travel insurance, purchased through the eTA site for USD $52
Immigration authorities will verify insurance certificates using the traveler's digital QR code through the eTA Validator App and mobile scanning devices. Guests should keep their insurance certificate readily accessible during arrival and immigration clearance.
The mandatory inbound policy is separate from your primary travel insurance and may still be required even if you already have another policy. You should maintain comprehensive travel insurance that includes trip cancellation and interruption, emergency medical expenses, and medical evacuation.
Guests with valid eTAs issued before October 6, 2026, are not required to make an additional insurance payment at this stage.
Travel Medicine
Yellow Fever vaccination may be required for travel to certain areas in Kenya or for travelers arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission.
Please speak with your travel doctor about Yellow Fever vaccination and your specific itinerary, as requirements may change.
If you are medically unable to receive the vaccination, discuss obtaining an appropriate medical waiver with your travel doctor and carry the documentation with you.
Flights & Transfers
Flights between Northern Tanzania and Nairobi take approximately one to 1½ hours.
Baggage allowances on internal and regional flights are limited. Some flights require a maximum total baggage weight of 33 lb., including your soft-sided duffel and small carry-on bag. Please confirm the allowance for your specific itinerary with your trip manager.
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your lodge. Your driver will meet you after you pass through the designated passenger arrival area.
ELECTRICAL POWER
Batteries can be charged at your lodge.
Kenya operates on 220–240 volts.
Kenya uses UK-style electrical outlets. We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter if you plan to charge batteries or other devices using wall outlets.
